“Toxic by Design” Ignites a Movement in Denver’s Design Industry

Denver, CO — The Toxic by Design event, hosted by Kaleigh Concannon of Uniquely You Decor, has been hailed as a resounding success, leaving a lasting impact on Denver’s design community. The sold-out event drew designers, showroom partners, and industry leaders together for an eye-opening exploration into the hidden health risks found in everyday furnishings and finishes.

Through powerful discussions led by Kaleigh and her panel of experts, attendees uncovered the realities of toxins silently present in our homes - from flame retardants in sofas to VOCs in paints and sealants. What began as an educational forum quickly evolved into something greater: a movement inspiring designers across Denver to reexamine how and what they source for their clients.

There is a large screen behind her displaying the message 'Your clients' homes should be beautiful and safe.' An audience is seated facing the speaker, and there are art displays and a color wheel visible in the background.

“The response has been incredible,” said Concannon. “Designers are walking away motivated to ask harder questions and make healthier choices that protect their clients’ well-being. That’s the future of design.”

Following its overwhelming success, Toxic by Design is set to become a repeatable series, expanding the conversation to new audiences and markets. Each event will continue empowering the design industry to prioritize transparency, safety, and sustainability - proving that beautiful spaces and healthy living can, and should, go hand in hand.

DESIGNING FOR HEALTH

Instead of sourcing latex-based paints - which off-gas extreme levels of VOCs for years - we use paint companies that are mineral-based

A stack of three fabric swatches with zigzag edges, including a dark green solid swatch on top, and patterned swatches underneath with floral and paisley designs in gray, black, and orange colors.

Either sourcing fabrics with non-toxic liquid repellents or recommending solutions like dark/patterned fabrics that hide spills

Sourcing washable rugs made of organic materials like wool. No synthetic materials - like polypropylene - that can lead to hormone disruption & cancer

From Branding to Building Healthier Homes

After 12+ years as a Creative Director for brands like Google, Amazon, and Target, my husband's health crisis led me to an unexpected new path—interior design. Seeing firsthand how non-toxic materials transformed his recovery, I now create spaces that are not only beautiful but also support well-being. With a branding background, I craft interiors that tell your story, making your home a reflection of you.

Designing for a Beautiful
and Safe Home

A man with long hair and a mustache showing his hands with multiple red, itchy, scaly skin rashes on the fingers, knuckles, and palms, with some yellowish crusty areas.

In 2022, after six terrifying months of an unexplained flesh-eating infection, Kaleigh’s husband, Ryan, was diagnosed with Mold Toxicity Poisoning. His illness exposed a harsh reality—the same toxins that shut down his system are present in most homes, causing unseen harm every day.

What they once saw as a personal nightmare became a mission to help others create safer, healthier spaces.

  • “Kaleigh was the consummate professional. She took the time to evaluate our space, lighting, existing furnishings and artwork and even our personalities, interests and pets. She personally oversaw everything and was super respectful about scheduling visits and when she didn't think something was quite right, took the extra step to assure it got done even if it meant doing it herself. The end result was a fabulous transformation on schedule and even under budget!”

    — Adam F, Sherman Oaks, CA

  • “What sets Kaleigh apart from other interior stylists I've worked with is her ability to go one step further into making sure the items in my home aren’t contributing to poor health. With a son who has chronic illness, this was absolutely a must.”

    — Madeline R, Denver, CO

  • “I love the thoughtful way Kaleigh sees a space. She has a different perspective that is unique, and anything but typical or expected. I have been designing sets and interiors for the past 30+ years and she continues to surprise me with the way she combines color and texture in her dĂ©cor choices to create one-of-a-kind designs for her clients.

    — Kim Kapellusch, Denver, CO

  • “Kaleigh at Uniquely You Decor took the time to understand our style and creatively blended our old furnishings with new pieces she found or created to transform our home into a haven after a long day's work.”

    — Cokey G, Darien, CT

  • “I have been an instructor at the Academy of Home Staging for over 10 years and I am one of the cofounders of The Academy of Interior Design. While attending The Academy, Kaleigh exhibited a passion for design and the industry. Her technical background, and superior work ethic, combined with her artistic eye will make her a force in this industry. I am proud to call her a colleague and was thrilled she became one of our guest educators at The Academy.”

    — Wanda Colón, Tampa, FL

  • “Kaleigh seamlessly worked with the aspects the house already had, my wishes and ideas, and the functionality needed for a vacation rental. She was also very patient with me as my ideas evolved, which I am eternally grateful for. ”

    — Sam O, Colorado Springs, CO

  • “Uniquely You Decor makes unique, and timeless interior style SO accessible and safe. I have a large monthly bill due to the medication I require, and she provided a plan for me that I could easily action on instead of charging a minimum in designer fees like most others I worked with before I go sick. ”

    — Catherine C, Crested Butte, CO

  • “Kaleigh at Uniquely You Decor brought color into my very neutral space. It wasn’t being used as the positive retreat that I needed after a draining day at work, and she took the time to evaluate not only what would look great, but what would positively impact my mental health.”

    — Becca S, Denver, CO
